In the 17th century, Propolis was listed as an official drug in the London pharmacopoeias. It has been used for centuries to treat infections and ward off disease. Today, research has found that Propolis has over 300 compounds that combine to make an anti-bacterial, anti-virus and anti-inflammatory disease fighter that cannot be recreated in a laboratory. Propolis is first collected by the bees as the sap from many species of tree, especially the poplar, and is carried to the hive in the bees' pollen baskets. The sticky, resinous wax-like product is then created by the bees addition of enzymes from their glandular system mixed with the resinous sap to create a substance that is a medical marvel used to treat pain and ease suffering of many long term conditions. Propolis is rich in fats, amino acids, organic acids, trace elements such as iron, copper, manganese, zinc and others, tannic acid, phytoncides, and antibiotics. It also has a high vitamin content, especially that of the B group, also E, C, H, P, and provitamin A. You can make a tincture with propolis or just enjoy it by chewing on a little bit of it every day!
